Wander the Map's Holiday Travel Plans

We're not the only bloggers who love traveling during the holidays! For our Friday Feature, we caught up with Jenna and Micah from Wander the Map to see how they spend their holidays, tips for traveling during the busiest time of the year, and any traditions they celebrate while away. Here's what they had to say:

1. Do you prefer tropical getaway or cold-weather for the holidays?

We usually prefer cold-weather for the holidays, and we like to save the tropical getaways for February or March when we are getting tired of winter back home.

2. Any pro tips for traveling during the holidays?

Packing light and in carry-on baggage is always a good idea; you won't have to wait to check in your luggage, stand at baggage claim after you land or risk getting your bags lost in the holiday shuffle. If you are traveling with gifts, either ship them prior to leaving or make sure they are small enough to fit in your luggage. Gift cards can be a great option when you need to save space in your luggage.

3. Where are you traveling to this year for the holidays?

We will be home for the actual holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we are heading to Europe for a couple of weeks in-between the two holidays. We are starting in Budapest and will be making our way north to Berlin--we can't wait to visit all of the festive holiday markets along the way!

4. What is one pet peeve you have in traveling during the holidays?

I always have a hard time with overcrowded airports and congestion, so that is one of my least favorite parts about traveling during the holidays, especially if the weather takes a turn for the worse and flights start getting delayed or cancelled.

5.  What is one holiday tradition that you take with you on your travels?

It's not necessarily a tradition we take with us, but rather one that we take home with us when we travel. We buy Christmas tree ornaments from every destination we visit, so we can reminisce about our travels when setting up our Christmas tree every year!

6. What was your best holiday getaway?

One of our favorite holiday getaways was when we were living in Florida and were missing winter weather, so we found a cheap flight and made our way to Washington D.C. for Christmas. It was so fun to take an unexpected last minute trip and soak up all the festive sights such as the National Christmas Tree at the White House and the holiday show at the United States Botanic Garden.
